Background Information Guide Pre-AP Chemistry
Date Due: Must be turned in by October 25th (7th period) or October 26th (1st period)
Format: The background information should conform to these rules:
(1) a minimum of three pages
(2) should be typed, double-spaced in 10 or 12 cpi
(3) if printed on a laser or inkjet printer, it should no larger than a 12 point font
(4) use standard fonts: arial, courier, helvetica, san serif, times, or times roman.
(5) illustrations, title page, and bibliography are not included in the page count
(6) pages must be numbered
(7) At least five references; if an internet source is used (maximum of 2), a copy of the web page(s)
must be provided. Only those pages actually used must be provided, not the entire web site.
(8) Encyclopedias and search engines are not acceptable references for Pre-AP Chemistry. A web site
counts as one reference; do not count each page of a web site as a separate reference.
(9) If used, citations should be by the last name of the author and year of the work, e.g (Smith, 1980)
Grading: Meets minimums 10 points
Accuracy (of material presented) 10 points
Neatness 10 points
Format (structure and grammar) 20 points
Content (clarity, completeness, etc.) 50 points
